I’m not really into brand names as all the major manufacturer's do the same thing very well and you can great results from any of them. However, I am tied into the Nikon mark because I have several older lenses that will still fit my digital camera (albeit with altered focal lengths). Newer names to SLR photography like Sony and Panasonic now offer very good cameras and I would be happy to use either of them. My advice to anyone starting out is to spend the most you can afford on high end lenses and use a cheaper body to put them on if money is a consideration.

I started taking pictures in the late 70’s around the age of 19 when I worked in a record store that rather bizarrely sold cameras as well. Business was often slow so I made a deal with the ageing camera salesman that entailed me teaching him about punk rock if he in turn would teach me about photography and it wasn’t long before he became the oldest swinger in town and I knew an F stop from a bus stop!
By the age of 26 I had started shooting weddings as a favour to friends and family and really enjoyed showing the happy couple my images. In those days I worked with a fully manual Bronica 645 medium format camera that would shoot a meagre 15 pictures on a roll.

Digital imaging has changed the world of photography forever, most of it for good but maybe not all. The advantages are obvious, checking exposures/sharpness etc. However, it is what can be done once the image has been uploaded into a digital imaging photoshop that can completely transform its appearance.
There is literally nothing that cannot be altered, rearranged, added or taken away. So at some point that image ceases to be a photograph and becomes a montage or similar. I love the digital medium and all of its possibilities but I personally do not like to alter an image to anything other than what I saw on the day (apart from when I am making an obvious statement as in the case of the thumbnail that acompanies this text).
